Association Executive Management provides practical advice and direction to not-for-profit Boards, executives, staff, and volunteers. Its goal is to find "Whatever Works" for the organization, and to prepare a plan for success that can, and will, be implemented by the group.

Board members, staff, and volunteers may be more knowledgeable about your organization's activities than anybody else. However, they are sometimes too close to the group's work to be able to make objective evaluations. They may have emotional or political attachments to programs or strategies and, despite their good intentions, may overlook alternative actions. An outside consultant can take a fresh, critical look at your activities, and help you focus the organization's efforts in the right direction.

Association Executive Management meets with the designated members of your organization to determine the scope and direction of the plan. Plan specifics, time frame, and fees are agreed to in a written contract.

Association Executive Management is headed by David M. Patt, CAE, a veteran not-for-profit executive and volunteer leader.

David understands the difference between writing plans and implementing them. He served as an Executive Director for 23 years, making key decisions and carrying out plans on a day-to-day basis, while leading the growth of organizations facing significant financial, marketing, and programming challenges.

He has utilized his expertise in strategic planning and management, governance, lobbying, fund-raising, event planning, membership recruitment, public relations, training, volunteer recruitment, and publications on behalf of membership societies and public interest groups dealing with health care, athletics, organizational development, schools, business, grassroots advocacy, and other issues.

David received the United Way "Gold Award" in 1988 and was named a Certified Association Executive (CAE) by the American Society of Association Executives in 1991. He has authored articles and presented workshops on management, generational issues, lobbying, event planning, sponsorship, and advocacy, and served on several government advisory panels.

David is past chair of the Career Services Committee of Association Forum of Chicagoland and currently serves on Forum's Editorial Working Group. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and served as President of neighborhood, business, and schools organizations.
